Melika Emami is a 2021 research intern in the Applied Sciences Group (ASG) at Microsoft, where she is working on self-supervised learning for audio/speech signals.

She is a Ph.D. candidate in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).  Her research is focused on theoretical machine learning with the broad goal of understanding the asymptotics of learning in deep neural networks.  She applies tools from high-dimensional statistics and large-scale optimization to provide rigorous guarantees for learning and generalization in machine-learning problems. She is also interested in time-series models with applications to computational neuroscience.  Before joining UCLA, she received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Tehran in 2016.

In her free time, Melika enjoys hiking and reading.
