Community Involvement

Microsoft has a passion for helping the community in which we live and work and we support this passion in a variety of ways. From our annual Giving Campaign to matching employee’s gifts of time and money, our employees aim to make a difference in their communities every day. Giving is ingrained in our culture and our employees will tell you, it’s one of the most rewarding—not to mention fun—aspects of our jobs.

Microsoft and its employees contribute to the community in which they live by bringing the benefits of information technology to people and organizations throughout the community. Through our efforts we strive to create an environment that fosters Diversity & Inclusion and belonging. The AOC makes an impact and contributes to the communities in which we work through more than 20+ signature outreach programs and events, managed and funded each year through our core AOC Site Pillar Programs.

Our core Pillar areas include Employee Experience (People & Site), GIVE (Charitable & Volunteerism) and Education (K-12, Higher Ed. & Technology). In addition to their day-to-day jobs, our employees lead various project teams under these priority areas, striving to make a measurable impact in the community. For more information or questions about Microsoft’s Northern Nevada community involvement, charitable giving or local corporate sponsorships please contact AOC Communications.

In addition, the new Reno Community Challenge is a fund dedicated to helping build thriving and sustainable communities across Reno and Sparks (Washoe County) and surrounding rural areas including Storey and Lyon Counties. Visit Reno Community Challenge for more information or to apply.

Lastly, the IT Makeover Campaign is another longstanding funding opportunity for nonprofits located in Northern Nevada. Microsoft is providing local nonprofit organizations the opportunity to receive funds for technology enhancements through the 16th Annual IT Makeover Campaign. Microsoft will provide $25,000 (total) in eligible community funding, which will be awarded to nonprofit recipients selected from an application pool throughout Northern Nevada. • IT Makeover Campaign

Microsoft Reno is providing local nonprofit organizations the opportunity to receive funds for technology enhancements through the 16th Annual IT Makeover Campaign. Microsoft Reno will provide $25,000 (total) in eligible community funding, which will be awarded to nonprofit recipients selected from an application pool throughout Northern Nevada. Nonprofits located in Washoe and/or surrounding rural counties are eligible and selected by a committee based on an application describing their organization's needs, mission, objectives and how the IT Makeover funds will be utilized to better serve the community. The nonprofits selected for a grant may use the campaign funding for Microsoft products, services and any additional technology improvements needed to advance their organization (implementation and installation of these products and services will be the responsibility of each nonprofit organization). The eligible community funding can be awarded to one organization or split between several organizations depending on the committee's selections each year. Over the past 15 years, a total of $330,000 has been awarded to more than 50 local nonprofit recipients through the IT Makeover Campaign. For more information visit the official page of the IT Makeover Campaign or contact AOC Communications. Watch the promotion video from the 15th Annual IT Makeover Campaign.

    Giving Campaign
Through the matching contributions program, Microsoft allows its employees to direct corporate contributions to thousands of nonprofit organizations working to improve lives in the United States and around the world. Donations that U.S.-based employees make to eligible nonprofits are matched dollar for dollar by the company, up to $15,000 each year. Every year, Microsoft dedicates the month of October to helping charities with our annual Giving Campaign. Events are held throughout the month. Each event is aligned to a specific nonprofit organization who receives all the revenues raised from that event plus a match of donations from Microsoft. The annual Giving Campaign allows our employees to show their passion for building stronger communities. In addition to matching employee financial donations, Microsoft matches time that our employees volunteer in the community, donating an annually designated amount per hour to the eligible organizations they serve. It is our hope that this employee benefit will have a great impact in our local community, supporting our employees in their gifts of time as well as money for the organizations they serve. For more information about the Microsoft Reno Giving Campaign, contact AOC Communications.

Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows Annual Charity Golf Tournament
Nationally, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Microsoft have enjoyed a long-standing relationship built on Microsoft’s philosophy of corporate philanthropy. Add in the generosity of our local tournament sponsors and employees who play and the results are obvious – a significant amount of money raised to do good for our community's greatest asset: the children. With this in mind, Microsoft Reno annually sponsors the BGCTM and its Charity Golf Tournament to benefit STEM education programs at the Club. The event is held in August of each year at the award-winning Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed Lakes and Hills Course at Red Hawk Golf and Resort. This is truly one of the finest events of its kind in northern Nevada, a high quality tournament with an exclusive field of 288 players. All proceeds from the event will benefit the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) programs at the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows. For more information about the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows Annual Charity Golf Tournament please visit BGCTM Events

    Microsoft Employee Volunteer Program
Microsoft believes in supporting our employees’ acts of giving and the organizations that inspire them. Microsoft's Employee Engagement Programs are designed to honor the diversity of employee giving at Microsoft by supporting a broad spectrum of organizations and institutions. Microsoft will process and match employee gifts to all eligible U.S. based nonprofit organizations and educational institutions with a U.S. Department of Treasury 501(c) (3) public charity status. Donations are matched dollar for dollar, up to the limits of each employee’s annual $15,000 charitable matching benefit across the programs.
    • Matching Gift Programs: Microsoft's Matching Gifts program is year-round and when employees donate cash, stock, or Microsoft products to the institution of their choice, Microsoft will match with an equivalent donation.
    • Giving Campaign: The Microsoft Employee Giving Campaign is dedicated to raising awareness and generating contributions for nonprofit organizations. During October, we encouraged our employees to partner with Microsoft to promote the causes that inspire them.
    • Microsoft Volunter Program: Each U.S. employees' annual matching benefit includes a match for gifts of time as well as money. When employees volunteer in the community, Microsoft will donate $25 per hour to the eligible organizations they serve.
  • Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada
