    About This Evaluation

    This evaluation provides a 180-day trial of Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Pro edition. Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions are available as ISO images. In order to use this evaluation, you must register and the product must be activated online with Microsoft-hosted activation and validation services. Microsoft does not provide technical support for this software.

    Things to Know Before You Start
    • You are required to activate the product online within 10 days after installing.
    • Upgrade scenarios are not supported. Please start from a clean install.
    • Once the evaluation is installed, you cannot upgrade. To revert to a previous version of Windows, you must do a clean install from your original installation media.

    Activation and Usage Guidelines
    • Back up your files and settings before installing this evaluation and again prior to the 180-day expiration.
    • A product key is required for this software. Upon installation, Windows will prompt you to activate.
    • Once you activate, you have up to 180 days to use the software. You can track the amount of time you have left by referring to the "watermark" in the lower right corner of the Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry desktop.
    • If you fail to activate this evaluation within 10 days after installation, or if your evaluation period expires, you will see a persistent desktop notification indicating that the system is not genuine, and the PC will shut down every 20-30 minutes losing unsaved work.

    Following the evaluation period, you will need to replace the operating system on your test computer and reinstall all your programs and data. It is not possible to upgrade the evaluation to a licensed working version of Windows. A clean installation is required with a fully licensed product key.

    Minimum hardware requirements

    • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster
    • 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
    • 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
    • Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver
    • At least one of the following bootable media types:
      1. Bootable DVD-ROM drive
      2. Bootable USB 2.0 port and a USB Flash Drive (UFD) with at least 5 GB of free space (7 GB required for x64) or access to a local network
    • BIOS that supports Windows Preinstallation Environment 4.0 (Windows PE 4.0)


    Additional requirements to use certain features:

    • A tablet or monitor that supports multi-touch to use touch features
    • A screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768 to run Windows 8 apps
    • A screen resolution of at least 1366 x 768 to snap Windows 8 apps
  • Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry consists of 1 DVD image (ISO). It is recommended that users with older browsers (Internet Explorer 5, 6 and 7) use the download manager that is available here to optimize the download experience. Once the .ISO file is downloaded you can then burn the ISO onto a blank DVD by software that supports the DVD5 format or mount the ISO as a virtual disk.
