As Season 1 opens, a fatal car accident brings a beautiful but vapid model named Deb face-to-face with a geeky gatekeeper tasked with evaluating her worthiness to enter Heaven. But when Deb balks, a twist of fate leads to her being reincarnated in the body of Jane Bingum (Brooke Elliott), a brilliant plus-size attorney who has just been felled by a gunshot. With the aid of her best friend Stacy and her sassy assistant Teri (Margaret Cho), this ditzy ex-beauty queen must learn to live as a brilliant and generously proportioned attorney working in a high-powered law office. It’s a task made even tougher when Deb's grieving boyfriend joins the firm, which already includes a heartless associate who's not about to let anyone stand in her way. And with these contradictory and competing perspectives to guide her, Jane must navigate the treacherous waters of female identity in a modern world.
