The show stars Gabriel Byrne as Paul, a therapist who exhibits an insightful, reserved demeanor while treating his patients--but displays a crippling insecurity while counseled by his own therapist. In Season 1, Paul's cast of patients includes Melissa George as an attractive woman with a crush on him, Blair Underwood as a scarred U.S. Air Force pilot, Mia Wasikowska as a suicidal teenage gymnast, and Josh Charles and Embeth Davidtz as a couple on the verge of breaking up. Dianne Wiest co-stars as Paul's erstwhile shrink.
