Over a dozen years ago, a meteor shower burst from the heavens, raining destruction on the unsuspecting citizens of Smallville, Kansas. The guardians of Clark's secret identity have always been his adoptive parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent. The knowledge that his life is out of control has recently forced Clark to keep Lana Lang, the girl he loves, at arm's length. Over the years, Clark has forged a remarkable relationship with Lex Luthor, although neither has an inkling of how their destinies will ultimately collide. Clark returns from a bizarre phantom zone to Smallville, possessed by his Kryptonian alter ego, Kal-El.
