Ten amateur bakers embark on a difficult series of challenges designed to test their cake-making abilities every week. Challenges include making biscuits, pastry and puddings. Eventually, only one will be crowned Britain's Best Amateur Baker. Meanwhile, throughout the itinerant series, hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins cast light on the history of British baking.
