Want to see IoT in action? What better way than in a cloud-connected rocket car

Seeing the results of our advanced analytics team’s efforts pay off big time is always a satisfying feeling. So, it was thrilling to witness the release of Microsoft’s Cortana Analytics Suite at our Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) last week.

Representing years of research and innovation in advanced analytics, Cortana Analytics Suite was designed with the goal of helping enterprise customers make better, faster decisions to accelerate their speed of business. And I can’t think of a more exciting way to demonstrate its power and speed than in cloud-connected rocket car racing at more than 700 miles per hour!

Setting a new land-speed record with Cortana Analytics Suite
The North American Eagle team is using Cortana Analytics Suite onboard their rebuilt F-104 Lockheed “Starfighter” as they attempt to break the current land-speed world record of 763 miles per hour in their jet-powered, three-wheeled car.

To do that, safety is critical and incremental increases in speed are careful and calculated. The team of engineers, pilots, mechanics and computer gurus is using the Microsoft cloud to increase their rate of progress toward the land-speed record, collecting nearly 12 million points of data from over 30 sensors, automatically processing more than 2,000 measurements a second, and delivering the results in a timeframe that was unimaginable in the past.

Take a look at this video to see it in action, and read more about the project here.

What a tremendous example of the power of big data, advanced analytics and the Internet of Things, and I look forward to helping manufacturers take advantage of Cortana Analytics Suite’s capabilities to transform your data into intelligent action. In my next blog, I’ll share additional innovation highlights from WPC for manufacturers.
