Make telco connections—in person!—at MWC LA 2021
It’s with no small amount of excitement that a delegation of Microsoft’s telecommunications industry leaders will be traveling to attend MWC Los Angeles 2021 from October 26-28, 2021, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Telecommunications has of course been a “hero industry” throughout the pandemic, providing the connectivity for remote collaboration and productivity solutions from Microsoft and others that have helped many organizations maintain business continuity over the last 18 months. But we’ve all missed the depth of connection that comes from shared in-person experiences, and so we are very thankful for the opportunity to spend time with a number of our customers, partners, and colleagues over these three days.
MWC Los Angeles will gather policymakers and key industry stakeholders to discuss trends and developments in government and public policy—as well as explore the event’s overall theme of Connected Impact across four topic areas: The 5G Era, IoT Connectivity, Telco Cloud, and Disruptive Innovation.
Microsoft momentum in telecommunications
Microsoft comes to MWC Los Angeles with tremendous momentum in the telecommunications sector, headlined by the announcement this past June that AT&T will move its 5G mobile network to Microsoft Azure, and by a number of other recent new partnerships and announcements with the likes of BT, Lumen, Avaya, Verizon, Telkom, Nokia, O2, Amdocs, and Telefónica.
We’ve also continued to extend the scope and capabilities of Azure for Operators to help service providers future-proof their networks, drive down costs, and create new business models and revenue streams with cloud solutions from Microsoft Azure, Affirmed Networks, and Metaswitch Networks. Our recent progress in this space was highlighted by the introduction of Azure private multi-access edge compute (MEC), with new services to accelerate 5G and edge monetization, and a new partner initiative to empower operators, system operators (SI), and ISVs to develop Microsoft-validated Azure private MEC customer solutions.
Four can’t-miss sessions at MWC LA
In addition to the opportunity to connect with many of you over the course of the show, Microsoft telecommunications industry leaders will also be featured in four sessions you should definitely include on your MWC LA agenda.
Disruptions in data Tuesday, October 26, 2021, 15:00-16:00 PDT
Rick Lievano, Microsoft’s WW CTO for the Telecommunications industry, will be featured in a panel discussion regarding the shift to digital interactions that are driving new consumer behaviors, expectations, and values. The combination of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for gathering and analyzing customer behavior enables businesses to gain a more accurate understanding of its customers by continuously learning and improving from the data it analyzes. This allows more in-depth and robust customer engagement systems to provide highly relevant content, increase sales opportunities, and improve the customer journey. This session will focus on successful business strategies enabled by AI and data, will explore how AI and data can work together to help build more in-depth and robust customer engagement systems, and will look at what is in store for the new connected consumer.
New age of automation Tuesday, October 26, 2021, 16:30-17:30 PDT
Sanjay Mewada, Worldwide Marketing Leader on Microsoft’s Azure for Operators team, will be featured in this session which will address the need for networks to support rising bandwidth and latency requirements from new applications—in particular as automation and machine-to-machine traffic increases. 5G networks are providing carriers and other industries the opportunity to take advantage of the benefits technologies such as automation, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things (IoT) can deliver. Private networks, mobile edge computing, and the cloud are providing the necessary network agility to open new revenue streams for carriers. This session will cover the current and future use cases that could benefit.
Accelerating the adoption of cloud Wednesday, October 27, 2021, 16:30-17:30 PDT
Ashwin Moranganti, GM on Microsoft’s Azure for Operators team, will be featured in this session on the opportunity for carriers to revolutionize both business and networks with Cloud. Key challenges in areas such as security and cost still need to be overcome when adopting cloud, but the importance, if done right, can deliver huge benefits for the telco industry. The road to a hybrid or cloud-native world is crucial when put into context of how the connected industry is being reshaped. The session will focus on sharing of best practices and open communication between Telcos and cloud-computing service providers.
Smart Cities and Spaces Wednesday, October 27, 2021, 16:30-17:30 PDT
Pete Benard, Principal Group Program Manager for Microsoft Azure Edge Devices, will be featured in a panel discussion regarding citizen engagement with smart city ecosystems using smartphones, mobile devices, connected cars, and connected homes. Pairing devices and data with a city’s physical infrastructure and services can cut costs and improve sustainability. The session will focus on the latest trends and technologies advancing connected living and how smart city technologies are improving infrastructure, mobility, public services, and utilities.
