How to track your way to success with OneNote

Do you have a large project that requires an outline to track your tasks to completion? Are you trying to develop an exercise routine and need motivation to get there? Whatever you are trying to achieve, breaking down and tracking your goals can push you to succeed. Learn how to use OneNote to track your progress and make your goals reality.

Envision your goals

Start small and dream big to envision your goals. For example, if you are trying to run a 10K by the end of the year, set smaller goals first. Try running three miles a month to build endurance for your race. Take this approach with all your goals to make them realistic and attainable. To brainstorm goals in OneNote, create a notebook and a section.

You could also use this section to create a vision board to illustrate your goals and create a statement to motivate your success. Click the Insert tab on the ribbon and add pictures, video, and stickers to visualize your goals. To add personal flair, click the Draw tab and select a digital writing utensil to sketch how you envision your future achievements.

Create a table for your goal tracker template

Organize your goals in one place by using a table as a goal tracker template. Navigate to the ribbon and click Insert Table and specify its size. Use the table to input goals for multiple areas of your life by titling cells in the first column “Fitness,” “Career,” “Spirituality,” or wherever you are seeking improvement. You can also add an additional column to list smaller goals, which you can complete on a quarterly, monthly, or daily basis as you work toward your larger goal.

You can also add a custom background to make your goal tracker more visually exciting. Click a cell in your newly create table to add shading and make your goals easier to scan.

Use to-do tags to categorize your goals

After you outline and define your goals, check them off when you complete them by using tags. Click the home tab on the ribbon and navigate to the tags section. You can use to-do tags to mark off goals as you complete them. There are also other pre-made tag options to choose from, or you can create a custom tag to fit your goal tracking needs!

Set deadlines

Complete your goals on time by using Outlook tasks in OneNote. After typing out a goal, navigate to the Home tab on the ribbon to add a deadline to your goal in Outlook. To see all your deadlines, you can use the Find Tags option to see any upcoming deadlines. If you have any of your goals scheduled, like the date of your 10K, you can also add it from Outlook into OneNote. Under the Home tab, click Meeting Details and add any upcoming races or due dates to your notebook.

Share your goals with your friends

When you are working toward completing your goals, it can be overwhelming trying to complete them alone. Ensure you achieve your goals by sharing your goals with your family and friends. Having your loved ones aware of your goals helps to make them real as they can hold you accountable. You can share your goal tracker on OneNote by sending email invitations and give them viewing permissions. As you check goals off your list, your friends will see updates and can congratulate you. When deadlines are approaching, ask your friends to check-in on your progress to help motivate you to finish.
