5 unique calendar ideas to fit your personality

Remember the excitement of getting a shiny new calendar to keep track of things like birthdays, holidays and vacations?

Somewhere along the way, tedious activities like work, errands and could-have-been-done-in-an-email meetings crept in and spoiled all the fun. It’s time to take back your calendars!

Today’s online calendars let you do so much more than just remember anniversaries or dental appointments. With a little creativity, you can organize everything in your life that makes you uniquely you. Let’s get started.

If you’re the family CEO…

Every house has one—that one person who seems to be the only one who knows what’s going on at any given moment. Consider a “Family 101” calendar to track everyone’s schedules, from the kids’ sports and school activities, to your work meetings and lunch dates. Use the share function to keep the whole family up to speed on any changes in your schedule and theirs. Try creating a household chore list that can be updated every week, and assign every family member a time and day to get it done. (You can even send them a “Job Well Done” note when completed.) And since you’re the one keeping it all together, be sure to add some well-deserved, well-being breaks for you. Set up a daily out-of-office notification—even if it’s just 30 minutes—to sneak in a quick workout, dabble on a new hobby or even just sit quietly and breathe.

If you’re a fashionista…

Attention clotheshorses: step away from the closet and build a calendar that will ensure you’re always in style. Got a side hustle selling clothes online? Create a shipping schedule to make sure your customer orders are going out in a timely fashion. You can even track payments and share delivery information with them in real time. If you’re the one doing the shopping, use your calendar to save the links of any items you’re interested in buying and add reminders of any upcoming sales and promotions to get it for a steal. Don’t forget to include seasonal “Clear the Closet” days to purge and organize your wardrobe. (How else are you going to make room for more?) And for a little fun, record and share your OOTD (outfit of the day) for future sartorial inspiration.

If you’re into self-improvement…

A journey of complete health and wellness begins with one step. Start by scheduling workouts tailored to your fitness level and goals—whether that means weekly appointments with your trainer or a daily walk—and track your progress with a handy fitness template or tracker. Add a nutrition journal so you can see what you’re putting in your body and sync it to a grocery list to help build healthier eating habits. Your well-being goes well beyond the gym, it also means taking care of your mental health. Why not create a mood monitor to record how you’re feeling and what events might have led to it? Or just make a quick note of one thing that brought you happiness each day—whether it’s a sweet compliment from a friend or a cute pic of your Lab.

If you’re a world traveler…

Experiencing a little wanderlust? Your adventure awaits! A well-organized calendar can help all your vacation plans take flight. Start by tracking your airline miles and create a savings schedule to encourage you to put money away for travel—a little here and a little there can really add up. Once you’re ready to plan your trip, save links of hotels or rentals you’re interested in for later follow up. A countdown to your departure date will help build excitement and keep trip preparation in line—use calendar notifications to ensure nothing gets overlooked or left behind. (Nothing will derail a dream vacation faster than an expired passport!) Once you’ve returned to home sweet home, use your calendar to log your vacation memories and organize and store photos.

If you’ve got a creative side…

No matter what your interests are—crafts, music, reading, cooking, etc.—an online calendar can offer a surprising amount of inspiration, as well as organization. Trying to learn how to play guitar? Use it to schedule classes and track your progress. Budding astronomer? Follow the lunar phases and set reminders of annual meteor showers for nighttime viewing. Reading and writing more your thing? Use sticky notes to tag books you want to add to your reading list or jot down blog post ideas. You can even create multiple calendars and color code them for easy reference.

With a little originality, your unique calendar will not only be a tool to stay organized and reduce stress—but will reflect and celebrate the things you love year-round.
