In hopes of making a difference at the magazine, Maya suggests that everyone get involved with the charity she's supporting. Convinced that it would make for good publicity, Jack orders the staff to help with a book drive and to pitch in as reading volunteers. But while disappointed in the efforts of the staff, Maya is most upset when her father fails to show up as promised. Chastised by Maya, Jack promises to do anything she wants to help the charity. When Maya doesn't believe him, Jack quickly writes the foundation a check for $50,000. However, his generosity backfires when the foundation chooses Jack, and not Maya, to honor as their Humanitarian of the Year. After watching her father being photographed for the foundation's newsletter with supermodel Amber Smith, Maya is madder than ever about having her efforts overlooked. Yet, when asked to deliver a testimonial to her father's generosity at the awards banquet, Maya declines to use the opportunity to even the score. However, after learning that Amber Smith is being honored, too, Maya explodes in anger at the banquet's hosts, unaware that they've named the award after her.

After seeing how easily her father responded to a bumbling but beautiful delivery girl, Maya complains that good looking people get all the breaks. To prove her point, she suggests sending two men, one handsome but stupid and the other well qualified but homely, to apply for the same job. Meanwhile, as Jack struggles to assemble a toy for his baby daughter, Elliott enlists Nina in a practical joke on Finch. After meeting the handsome Derek and the well qualified Neil, Maya sends them out to interview for a job. But Maya's thesis quickly runs into trouble. When Neil returns with news that he's a shoe-in for the job and asks her out for dinner to celebrate, Maya is careful to turn him down, citing journalistic ethics as her reason. However, when Derek returns to announce that he got the job, she accepts his offer for a date. Meanwhile, as Jack struggles with the unassembled toy, Nina helps plan a practical joke that plays on a lifelong fear of Finch's. While at dinner with Derek, Maya runs into an old high school classmate who's impressed with her handsome date. After inviting Derek to her high school reunion, Maya does her best to cover their relationship at work. However, when she can no longer keep it under wraps, she must fend off accusations of hypocrisy. Meanwhile, as a safety recall of the toy gets Jack off the hook, Nina springs her surprise on Finch, only to discover that the joke was really on her. But when Jack sees what's happened, he sends Nina on a Caribbean vacation while giving her work to Elliott and Finch as Maya finally decides to break up with Derek.

As Nina prepares to debate a feminist on the radio, a mistake by a new assistant makes Maya late for an important meeting. As Maya gently points out the error, Cindy apologizes. Meanwhile, Elliott and Finch conspire to sabotage Nina's radio debate. As Cindy continues posing problems, Maya turns to her dad for advice. When Jack suggests firing her, Maya doesn't have the nerve. However, after learning that Jack fired the bumbling assistant himself, Maya storms in to his office to complain, only to find herself interrupting another important meeting. And not one to be pushed around by her dad, she hires Cindy back without telling him. As Elliott and Finch work to make sure Nina's vocabulary is as jumbled as possible for the debate, Maya promises that Cindy will work out fine under her tutelage. But when Maya tries covering up her assistant's persistent mistakes, Jack sees through her efforts. Meanwhile, despite the complaints registered by her feminist opponent, Nina's beauty allows her to get away with using the inane gibberish she was fed by Finch and Elliott. Finally, after giving up on Cindy, Maya agrees to let Jack find her another job in the building.

Meanwhile, Nina's flirtatious behavior sends a handsome window washer to the hospital after a nasty fall. Though Nina tries to hide her involvement in the accident from the police, she can't keep from telling Elliott. As Nina heads for the hospital to comfort the injured man, Jack notes the irony of Maya's dating Tom after complaining about his being married to a younger woman. As Maya and her dad seek understanding as to why they're at odds, Elliott weighs in on Jack's side, claiming that Tom is too old. And after turning to Finch for advice, Jack concludes that never getting the blessing of Allie's dad for their marriage has caused him to disagree with his daughter's choice. Making an appointment with his father-in-law Frank, Jack is intent on getting his approval for his marriage to Allie. However, when Tom arrives unexpectedly to reveal that he's decided to break up with Maya, Jack gets to spend a few moments in Frank's shoes. And even though he tries to be magnanimous by offering his own blessing to Maya and Tom, Jack still finds it hard to accept. Finally, as Nina's hospital visit causes even more problems for the hapless window washer, Maya learns that Tom is breaking up on Jack's advice.

Meanwhile, after learning that a rival is being paid more, Nina decides to ask for a raise. Despite Elliott's warnings, Maya finds her first meeting with Nikki to be quite pleasant. And following nearly two days of non-stop partying and sex, Finch cannot resist Nikki's erotic charms when she stops by the office. But when Finch misses an important meeting at the office, Elliott discovers that he's being held as Nikki's sex slave. Meanwhile, when Nina asks for a raise, Jack reminds her of the many perks she already enjoys. Even after he's released from her cage, Finch cannot promise to resist seeing Nikki again. Once Finch returns to the office after being abandoned in the woods by Nikki, Maya and Elliott agree that it is time for an intervention. Despite what Finch says, Elliott realizes that he'll only leave to see Nikki again. However, when Nikki shows up again, Elliott manages to get Finch to exercise some self restraint, even though he can't do so himself. Finally, after Jack reveals that he knows she's been padding her expense account, Nina abandons all hope for a raise and begs to keep her job.

As Elliott looks for way to get supermodel Carmen Electra to agree to a date, Nina worries about being turned down by a co-op's board of directors. Although she has little interest in Nina's problems, Maya does worry about her father's annoying habit of using endearing nicknames for her at the office. Asking him to stop, she makes it clear she doesn't want Jack to show any favoritism at the office. Meanwhile, after having an electric opener installed on his office door, Jack reveals that he is taking his wife to see King Lear. And while Maya makes clear her love for Shakespeare, everyone else can't go far enough to denounce him. When their ill daughter makes it impossible for Jack and his wife to attend the play, news that it's in London and includes a private jet and first-class hotel accommodations suddenly makes Elliott and Nina wild about Shakespeare. And when Maya complains about him giving the trip to them, Jack reminds her that she didn't want him to show any favoritism. As Jack begins to experience problems with his door opener, Nina and Elliott prepare to leave for London. However, seizing the opportunity to get the date he's always wanted, Elliott offers Nina's ticket to Carmen. But hoping to use it as a bribe to get her an apartment, Nina promises Elliott's ticket to the co-op board's president. In a reprise of King Lear, Nina and Elliott begin plotting against one another to see that they get the tickets they need. When their efforts at flattery and then poisoning one another fall short, the two fight over the tickets, only to lose them down the elevator shaft. As Maya reminds him of her lifelong love for Shakespeare, Jack continues to struggle with his uncooperative door opener. Finally, while Nina and Elliott are stranded inside a malfunctioning elevator, Carmen and Finch go to London for the play together.

After writing a fictional article about a dinner with director Woody Allen, Maya must endure the criticism of her father and her coworkers. But she's delighted when someone claiming to be Allen calls to compliment her about the piece. However, when he drops by the office, Maya finds that the man who called is nothing more than an obsessed impostor trying to pass himself off as the famous director. Meanwhile, a mix-up has Nina giving Jack breath-freshener instead of eye drops. After getting to know the phony Woody Allen, Maya begins to enjoy his flattery and company. Taking his advice, she's even able to persuade Jack into letting her pursue an unpopular story idea. However, despite her delight in having the advice work, Maya is still taken aback to find Woody perched on her balcony when she arrives home from work. Meanwhile, Nina pledges to stand by Jack until his eyesight is restored. Despite warnings from Elliott, Maya decides to keep seeing Woody even though he's an impostor. However, after learning that he is actually the eccentric millionaire Preston Beckman, Maya decides to try and help him. Yet unwilling to play along, Beckman continues keeping up his role as Woody Allen, much to Maya's disappointment. Finally, Jack's eyesight returns to normal in time to discover Finch trying to capitalize on his blindness.

Wanting the best possible education for his baby daughter Hannah, Jack is determined to make sure she's accepted at the Woodbridge School where Maya attended as a child. However, it's only after getting a rejection letter from Headmaster Reilly that Jack learns that Maya once burned down one of the school's buildings. And to make matters worse, he paid to have it replaced while thinking he was making a donation to the school. Meanwhile, Finch is the odd man out when Nina and Elliott bond over their mutual admiration for blues legend Cholera Joe Hopper. Despite Jack's efforts to buy his daughter's way into Woodbridge, Headmaster Reilly is unwilling to budge. Recounting the fire that cost the school a building and Jack so much money, Reilly notes that it wasn't Maya who he faulted, but her neglectful dad. Desperate to prove that he's a changed man, Jack sets out to show to Reilly that he's worthy of having another child admitted to the exclusive school. Meanwhile, their different interpretations of some Cholera Joe lyrics drives a wedge between Elliott and Nina. Unable to make up for missing her childhood piano recital, Jack begs Maya to weigh in on his behalf with Reilly. And while Maya recalls the many times he failed her as a child, she finally gives in and agrees to tell the headmaster that her dad has reformed. But Reilly sees through their ruse, forcing Jack to admit it was all a sham. However, impressed by Jack's determination, Reilly is ready to admit Hannah, unaware that Maya has accidentally ignited another blaze while touring the school's science fair. Finally, as Elliott and Nina search to resolve their disagreement, Finch seizes the opportunity to make them look foolish.

Although led to believe that he's going to use the gift to open his own business, Maya is stunned when Jesus falls in love with her and uses the money to buy her a series of lavish gifts to prove it. Meanwhile, Finch begs to be invited along for a Caribbean swimsuit shoot with Elliott and a dozen beautiful models. When his pleas to be included in the trip fail to do any good, Finch decides to turn up the heat on Elliott by stealing his favorite camera lens. And though Elliott tries to resist, the lure of his lucky lens proves too strong and he invites Finch along. Then, after Jack reneges on his promise and buys them all presents, Nina, Finch and Elliott are forced to use their imagination so they can give him something in return. However, when everyone learns of Maya's gifts, they are certain that she suggested giving Jesus all the Christmas money just so she could be rewarded. Once Maya tells him she cannot reciprocate his feelings, Jesus insists that she take one gift, a ticket he won to a Legends of Baseball party. So when her dad gives her an expensive book as a Christmas gift, Maya returns the generosity by giving him the ticket. However, Jack is surprised to find that the party was actually part of a sting operation to arrest Jesus for being an illegal immigrant. Finally, despite learning that the swimsuit assignment has been canceled, Elliott doesn't tell Finch, preferring to send him along for the replacement shoot, a photo shoot with male models.

Upon learning of the death of an old high school teacher, Elliott announces that he's going to use the memorial service to prove to his former classmates that he's a success. But while Elliott claims to have always been popular, the yearbook pages faxed by his mother to Finch reveal that he was really a nerd. As his plans to impress everyone are set back by a large ugly pimple, losing his contacts forcing him to wear his old glasses makes everyone sees just why he was considered a geek. Meanwhile, when Jack gives him lessons on how to intimidate the staff, Finch has no problem getting Nina to change her mind about charging an expensive mirror to the magazine. When being exposed as a nerd sends Elliott into a tailspin, Jack insists that Maya take responsibility for bringing him out of it and getting him back to work at once. However, Maya finds her efforts to bolster Elliott's confidence working a little too well when he vows to use the late teacher's memorial service to promote himself. Meanwhile, Jack takes drastic action after finding that he's created a monster when Finch uses his techniques to get everyone to do his work for him. Realizing she has to keep Elliott from doing something foolish, Maya follows him to the memorial service. After listening to him describe how badly he was treated in high school, Maya then recalls some unpleasant incidents from her own adolescence. Yet, despite his old classmates starting their harassment all over again, Elliott decides to keep his cool and honor their late teacher. And while her efforts to get Elliott to promote himself fall short, Maya turns her attention to embarrassing one of his meaner classmates.

Upon learning that a college roommate who is now a well known Middle East correspondent is coming to town, Maya is anxious to prove that she's a hard hitting journalist, too. So when she proposes a story about a clothing manufacturer's toxic waste dumping, Jack agrees to let her do it. Meanwhile, with the approach of Jack's birthday, Finch and Nina square off over who can get him the best present. When foreign correspondent Erin Simon arrives, Elliott invites her to join him at a popular nightclub. But Maya is forced to beg off so she can cover her waste dumping story instead. And upon returning home empty-handed from her stakeout, Maya is stunned to find that Erin spent the night with Elliott. Meanwhile, when Finch gets Jack's childhood hero Cowboy Pete Hamilton to appear for his birthday, Nina gets the cowboy's simian sidekick, Monkey Dan. Warned by Maya against a one night stand, Elliott is surprised to find Erin is leaving him after their night together. As Finch and Nina both work to keep Jack from finding Cowboy Pete and the monkey, Maya learns that her next stakeout is going to conflict with her dad's birthday party. Meanwhile, unsure about the safety of her neighborhood, Jack nervously accepts an invitation for dinner at Maya's apartment. Following his night out with Red, Finch discovers that his dad thinks he's gay. Though he tries to dispel this ill-conceived notion, Finch has a hard time getting either Nina or Elliott to tell Red the truth. Meanwhile, when Nina apartment is robbed, she borrows a neighbor's furniture in order to fool her dad. Over drinks, Finch discovers that his two brothers, Scottie and Buck, think he's gay, too. And while Finch finally is able to persuade him that he isn't really gay, Red discovers that same cannot be said about Scottie. Meanwhile, Maya's ruse comes undone as Jack learns the truth about the furniture and the robbery. And though she refuses his offer of an apartment in a luxury building, Maya has second thoughts after watching the showdown between a cop and a thug in her hallway.

Meanwhile, as a result of the successful commercial, Elliott's embarrassment increases right along with Staci's popularity. On Jack's advice, Elliott decides to return to the way he felt about Staci before she made the commercial. However, as a result of her newfound fame Staci decides to break up with him instead. Meanwhile, when Maya invites Steve in so she can apologize, Jack insists she wear a concealed recording device. However, when the hidden microphone malfunctions during their conversation Maya's efforts to remove it give Steve entirely the wrong idea about her intentions.

Between Elliot's close scrutiny of the photo and a search of his phone messages, Maya concludes that he's involved with a waitress named Rhonda. Meanwhile, Finch realizes he's being played for a fool after Courtney asks him to pick up an old boyfriend at the airport. After tracking her down at the Brooklyn diner where she works, Maya and Elliott discover that Rhonda is actually an elderly waitress who has been serving her dad and some friends since they were classmates in high school. And after Rhonda reveals that Jack's depression is a result of an annual gathering of his old pals that has failed to materialize for the first time in forty-five years, Maya takes matters into her own hands. Finally, after Nina manages to get the prized jacket repaired, she, Maya and the others arrive to help Jack make his annual walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.

Meanwhile, Finch agrees to fill in for Jack's wife at the Gallo's regular bridge game. After encouraging Karey, Maya is stunned to find she's decided to become a model. And while Maya tries to point out the many pitfalls of getting a modeling career off the ground, Elliott reveals that she already has a number of offers to work. However, Nina begins to have second thoughts about pushing Karey to model after discovering she's also a gifted poet. Meanwhile, Jack lies to his wife in order to keep playing bridge with Finch. While Maya concludes that the excitement of a modeling career might just be what Karey needs, Nina decides she should return to school in order to nurture her writing talents. However, the less-than-coordinated Karey takes Maya's suggestion about following her dream and decides to pursue a dance career instead. Finally, as Finch and Jack struggle to keep their secret bridge liaison alive, Maya and Nina give up on trying to stop Karey, regardless of how improbable her dream might seem.

Meanwhile, as Elliott accuses a famous photographer of stealing his best ideas, Finch is appalled when given Jack's latest art project. During an interview, Maya discovers that Nina wasn't the inspiration for the song and that Nick doesn't even remember meeting her, let alone spending a weekend together 25 years ago. Once Nina arrives at the bar, Maya asks Nick to pretend he does. But when Nick then agrees to give her a call the following day, Maya is forced to tell Nina that he hurriedly left town to resist any temptation to rekindle their affair. Meanwhile, as Elliott sets out to use Nick's photos to prove he's a star, Finch's inability to complain about Jack's artwork gets him even more gifts. But a plan to create his own garish gift as a way to get Jack to stop backfires. As Elliott works to get just the right photos of Nick, Nina learns that the rock star is in the building. Consequently, Maya is forced to reveal that he doesn't remember spending time with her. And that's when Nina discovers her romantic weekend wasn't spent with Nick, but with his band's bass player. Finally, as Nina decides that the weekend wasn't quite so romantic after all, Elliott learns that his idea for Nick's pictures were once used by a famous rival.

Meanwhile, Nina seeks Elliott's help reviving her modeling career. But after agreeing to be painted gold for her pictures, she's stunned when Elliott is out of the solvent to remove the paint. Following her disastrous lecture, an article in the student newspaper exposes Maya's less than flattering remarks about her co-workers. Reminding his daughter of the many good works the magazine has performed over the years, Jack admonishes her to defend it at every opportunity. Meanwhile, as Finch continues to compile "Galloisms" for Jack's memoirs, Nina worries about returning to her normal skin color before a big date. Back at the school to demand an apology, Maya learns that Jack knew all along about the ambush that awaited her. Confronted with the truth, her dad admits he agreed to appear at the forum just to get a favor at his golf club. However, when Jack tries to escape, he discovers that Maya has assembled some angry students as payback. Finally, after Nina is dissatisfied with his photos, Elliott neglects to tell her that the gold paint simply washes off with soap and water.

And despite being offered $10,000 for the bikini by a Japanese fan, Nina agrees to have it hung on the wall of the Model Cafe for everyone to see. Meanwhile, Elliott reluctantly agrees to take some sexy photos of Jack. As Nina and her friends arrive for the unveiling at the Model Cafe, they discover that the bikini has been placed above the restaurant's garbage dumpster. Unable to persuade the manager to move it, Nina's friends do their best to make her feel better about the awkward placement. However, with some encouragement from Finch, Maya agrees to steal the bikini so Nina can sell it to her Japanese fan. Meanwhile, Jack balks at Elliott's suggestions to make his pictures sexier. After casing the cafe, Maya and Finch have no problem stealing Nina's swimsuit. However, it's when they try to nab a souvenir for Elliott that they get caught. Meanwhile, though Jack doesn't appreciate Elliott's efforts to doctor his pictures, he isn't too enamored with the real ones either. Finally, Nina feels vindicated after selling her bikini, unaware that her Japanese fan is wearing it.
The Kiss

When Elliott sees the fabulous place and learns of its outrageously low rent, he's ready to move, regardless of what Maya has to say. And once the opportunity to put on a good show presents itself, he gives Maya a passionate kiss. Meanwhile, Jack's trust is destroyed upon discovering that Finch has been renting out his office parking space. Following their kiss, both Maya and Elliott worry that they each liked it more than they should have. So when Jack wants to send them to Montreal on a story, both have excuses for not wanting to go. However, Elliott still needs Maya to help him get the apartment and invites her to a weekly tenants party being thrown by Mrs. Pierce. But when Maya refuses to go, he asks Nina instead, hoping that the landlady won't notice. Meanwhile, Elliott discovers that all the tenants humor Mrs. Pierce in order to keep their wonderfully cheap apartments. When Maya shows up to help him out after all, Elliott quickly pretends that Nina is his mother. Impressed, Mrs. Pierce gives Elliott and Maya the apartment. But when she overhears them talking, they are forced to confess to their deception. Even so, the eccentric landlady lets Elliott have the apartment, certain that there's a potential for romance with Maya. Finally, after Jack admits to overreacting about the parking space, Finch worries when his boss announces an unexpected off-season visit to his summer home.

And that's when Maya discovers that her dad is guilty of pushing Herb aside after they launched the first issue of Blush. Meanwhile, Nina asks Elliott for help by taking IRS auditor Janet Hansen on a date. Realizing that Maya is right, Jack tracks down Herb at the Connecticut toy shop he opened after leaving the magazine, and finds that he still holds a grudge after thirty years. To make good for having forced him out, Jack then hires him as the magazine's new managing editor. But on his first day at work, Herb can't seem to make up his mind about anything. Meanwhile, Elliott's lack of interest in Janet jeopardizes Nina's chances at surviving her audit unscathed. As the delays risk bringing the magazine to a halt. Maya realizes just why her dad dumped Herb thirty years ago. Though Jack is still determined to make things right by his old partner, Maya asks that he be fired. As a result, Jack assigns him a project that takes him back to his toy shop. And even though Herb realizes that he's being gently pushed aside once again, he's more than willing to leave it all behind. Finally, after falling in love with Elliott, Janet agrees to go easy on Nina. But Elliott is in for a surprise when he tries getting out of their fledgling romance by claiming to be gay.

While warning him about how hard it is to be accepted by the staff, Finch sees that Kenny isn't having any problems. As a result, he worries about being replaced by Jack's new aide. Meanwhile, as Nina decides to give up smoking, Maya mistakes one of her nicotine patches for a Band-Aid. And while quitting cigarettes increases Nina's sexual appetite, the nicotine patch has a dramatic effect on Maya. Worried that he's losing his access to Jack, Finch decides to send Kenny a warning. However, when Kenny comes back with a threat of his own, it's Finch who's worried when he's challenged to a fight after work. And while Finch tries to call attention to the threat, he's unable to convince Jack or anyone else of the danger. Meanwhile, as a result of her nicotine high, a TV interview to discuss Maya's work in an anti-drug program sends entirely the wrong message. Finding Finch hiding in a closet convinces Elliott of the threat posed by Kenny. So, as Maya suggests that Finch wear one of her dresses in order to escape the office unharmed, Elliott hatches a rescue plan of his own. After being lured into a copy room where Nina needs attention to her uncontrollable sexual urges, Kenny gets undressed before discovering it's a trap. And as Finch is led to believe that his nemesis chickened out, Kenny is fired after Jack finds him without his clothes.

When Jack's ex-wife Eve drops in unannounced, her long-standing hostilities with him are renewed. Tired of always having her parents fighting, Maya threatens to stop talking to either of them if they can't behave. And hoping it will make things better, she suggests that her mom and dad join her for dinner. Meanwhile, on Jack's invitation, Bill Slatton arrives at the office determined to make the staff work harder. After agreeing to the dinner date, Jack begins to suspect that Eve has come to take back a favorite painting he's supposed to give up as part of their twenty-five year-old divorce settlement. And once Maya lets it slip over dinner that Jack is worried, Eve seizes upon the idea of getting the painting back. Meanwhile, Nina and Finch both find it hard to outwit Bill's efforts. And even though Elliott tries to meet the new standards, Bill sees through his efforts to brown-nose. Seeing that she's again being placed in the crossfire between Jack and Eve, Maya refuses to take sides. However, once Jack is caught pretending to give up the painting, Maya locks her parents inside his office and demands that they learn to stop arguing. Meanwhile, after Bill fires the staff, Jack reveals that he's just a caddie from his golf club who asked for a tour of the magazine. And as Bill is shown the door, Maya is stunned to find her parents have more than made up.

But she's stunned when her candid criticism appears in the next day's newspaper attributed to Nina. Meanwhile, Jack decides to help a reluctant Elliott get a date. When Nina insists she wasn't at the party, Maya steps forward to take responsibility for the misunderstanding. And wondering just how much damage she's has done, Maya is surprised when her father reveals that Milos has withdrawn almost $4 million in advertising from the magazine. So to make things right, she insists on apologizing in person. And upon arriving at the studio, she claims her remarks were misquoted. Meanwhile, Jack's lavish behind the scenes campaign impresses Meredith enough to want another date with Elliott. Once Milos discovers that she isn't even a fashion writer, he imperiously dismisses Maya and her opinions. Yet, when she is offended by his arrogance, Milos is intrigued. And dismissing his sycophantic assistant, Milos solicits Maya's suggestions for a new line of clothes. Following their session, Maya is delighted to accept an invitation to wear the new creation at a big charity ball. But it's only after arriving to face an army of photographers does she realize that Milos got his revenge. Finally, when Meredith balks at his latest efforts on behalf of Elliott, Jack only redoubles his resolve to win her over.

And after he takes advantage of the moment with a kiss, his back goes out, leaving him stranded. Meanwhile, after insisting that Finch participate in an inter-office paint ball match, an accidental shot takes Jack out of the contest just as it's getting started. Only after realizing he can't move does Michael reveal that he's both married and a Congressman. Because his wife thinks he's on a hunting trip in Louisiana, he cannot call for help. However, Maya is determined to get him out of her apartment. But when Nina provides some pain pills to help get him up and around, he passes out cold. Meanwhile, Jack won't forgive Finch for taking him out of the paint ball contest early. Following up on a lead, the police arrive at Maya's in their search for Michael. While successfully managing to hide him, Maya learns of Michael's reputation for philandering. And with Nina's help, she dumps the unconscious congressman on the street dressed in women's clothes. Finally, as Michael struggles to explain to an inquisitive press, Finch redeems himself with Jack after throwing himself in front of an exploding soda can.

After arranging a blood drive at work, Maya fills the nurse, Tisha, in on her history with the magazine. When complaining about her father's hiring a beautiful but inept young writer gets Maya overly excited, she faints. Hoping to take advantage of Maya's condition, Finch tries playing a practical joke. But Maya awakes in time to stop him, leaving Finch to use his turn with Tisha to recall how he was hired by Jack after losing his job as a movie theater usher. When Elliott arrives, Tisha claims to be a big fan of his work. In response, he fills her in on how Jack hired him off the street just as he was about to give up on his dream of being a fashion photographer. Meanwhile, Maya again loses consciousness after Elliott graphically describes his own blood donation. As Maya regains consciousness in time to help the hair-brained Shannon, Nina shows up for her turn with Tisha. Asked about her history with the magazine, Nina remembers her own fall from grace as a fashion model which ended with Jack finding her working as a mermaid at a boat show. Finally, despite her frustration in having to work with Shannon, Maya thanks her dad for rescuing her from a dismal job just like he did with everyone.
