When he was three, Gabe's mother abandoned him on the streets of Calcutta, but he was adopted by a young American couple. Gabe seemed happy in America, but he secretly felt like an outsider. In high school he started to rebel and resent his Christian upbringing. He began using marijuana and cocaine, and later graduated to heroin. Then he squandered all of the $37,500 he received after a car accident to support his drug habit. Now the family fears that without an intervention, Gabe's addiction and depression will soon lead to his death.

So stricken with fear that one twin may burn more calories than the other, each twin never allows the other to leave her sight. Donald is a 38-year-old crack addict from Long Island, New York. When he was five, Donald's parents divorced after his Catholic father refused to accept his mother's conversion to Jehovah's Witnesses. Donald longed for a strong father figure, but his father had little contact with him. As a young man, Donald was a gifted boxer and won two gold medals in the Junior Olympics, but in the end, Donald chose drugs over his career. He began selling drugs and joined a violent gang where he was known as "The Enforcer." He became increasingly addicted to crack, then turned to stealing to support his habit. Now, his 21 year-old son, also a gifted athlete, is angry and estranged because Donald wasn't there for him growing up. Donald's girlfriend Carolyn just had their baby and Donald has a second chance to be the caring father he always dreamed of being. But his crack use is spiraling out of control and he's reduced to living in his mother's basement. His mother and sister are praying for him to give up drugs and his girlfriend is afraid to leave him alone with their baby. They are all convinced that without an intervention, Donald will die.

Overcome with guilt and grief for his dead classmates, Jason's addiction escalated. Now Jason lives on the streets of Denver, and his family is in pieces. Jason is in desperate need of an intervention.

Brooke was in denial about her addiction to pain pills but agreed to go to treatment after an explosive intervention. Now her parents are visiting Brooke to see how much progress she's made.
