Description
America was built on equality and opportunity, but when those things are denied, it's time to fight back. This 'HBO Films' production details the stirring true story of a group of Mexican American students who did just that when they staged a compelling 1968 walkout to protest the injustices of the public high-school system in East Los Angeles. Set against the background of the national civil-rights movement, the film stars Alexa Vega as an idealistic honors student who takes on the school system's blatant discrimination against Mexican Americans by banding with a group of fellow activists to coordinate a multi-school walkout of students. The result would send an unequivocal message to American educators and administrators that endures today. Directed by Edward James Olmos (the Oscar(R)-nominated star of 1988's 'Stand and Deliver').
