Video-based In Situ Tagging for Mobile Augmented Reality

In this talk, we introduce a novel approach for creating and overlaying annotations on real world objects. We present how to exploit sensors of smartphones to estimate the orientation relative to a target object from an image and how to perform learning on a smartphone in situ. This approach allows a user to interact with an unknown scenes and to create virtual annotations on it through a smartphone. Experimental results in real world scenes demonstrate the effectiveness of our method for mobile augmented reality applications.

Speaker Details

Wonwoo Lee received the B.S. degree from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea, in 2003, and the M.S. degree from the Department of Information and Communications, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, Gwangju, Korea, in 2004, where he is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree. His current research interests include silhouette segmentation for 3D reconstruction, real-time object detection for augmented reality, and GPGPU for high-performance computing.
