Project Premonition: Seeking to prevent disease outbreaks (extended)

Microsoft Research, working with Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Health, University of Pittsburgh and St. George’s University, conducted a feasibility study in Grenada to determine the viability of Project Premonition. The research uses autonomous methods such as drone-enabled mosquito traps to attract and collect mosquitoes, and then conduct cloud-based next generation gene sequencing analysis of pathogens in the mosquito to detect early signs of infectious diseases.

Microsoft Research is leveraging its expertise in autonomous trap design, safe cyber physical systems and autonomous drones and cloud-based computational genomics to create a timely, scalable and resource-efficient response for emerging infectious diseases.
