Alvin Chen is a Senior Software Engineer at Microsoft Research working on Microsoft Academic. Alvin joined in 2015 and focused on building AI systems. Microsoft Academic deploys an army of machines to read massive content from the web, extract knowledge, serve them to users, and consider user feedback to further improve knowledge extraction. The extracted knowledge is used to power academic services behind Bing, Cortana, Office Word, and the Microsoft Academic website. Alvin worked on all aspects of the system and actively managing knowledge serve and user feedback. Most recently, Alvin is leading the development of MAKES, a self-hosted academic knowledge service solution.
Prior to Microsoft Research, Alvin joined Microsoft Office in 2013 and worked on Excel.
Alvin received his B.S. in Computer Science from University of California, San Diego in 2013 and received his M.B.A from University of Washington in 2019
