Darren is a senior applied research scientist in the Microsoft AI for Good Research Lab — a team of researchers and data scientist dedicated to using AI, machine learning, and statistical modeling to tackle some of humanity’s greatest challenges. We partner with leading nonprofits, academics, research institutions, NGOs, and governments to accelerate work across the AI for Good program portfolio.
Darren works on a broad array of problems including human health and development, digital safety, and sustainability.
Prior to joining Microsoft Darren was a faculty member in the departments of Linguistics, Psychology, and Neuroscience at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he was the PI of the Illinois Electrophysiology and Language Processing Laboratory. His academic work focused on the neurocognitive underpinnings of language processing, language development, and multilingualism using a broad array of methods including electroencephalography and eye tracking. During his time at Illinois Darren won numerous awards awards for teaching and research and was the PI for multiple grants from the National Science Foundation.
