How to Give a Great Research Talk

Writing papers and giving talks are key skills for any researcher, but they aren’t easy. In this pair of presentations, I’ll describe simple guidelines that I follow for writing papers and giving talks, which I think may be useful to you too. I don’t have all the answers—far from it—and I hope that the presentation will evolve into a discussion in which you share your own insights, rather than a lecture.

Speaker Details

Simon is a researcher at Microsoft Research, where he focuses on the design and implementation of functional programming languages. He was one of the designers of Haskell and is responsible for the widely used Glasgow Haskell compiler. More recently he has become deeply involved in the issues surrounding computer science in K-12 education. He co-founded the UK’s Computing at School working group, and serves as its chair.
