Connect your game controller to your PC

Connecting your Xbox controller to a PC is fast and easy. Many PC games let you play with an Xbox Wireless Controller instead of a keyboard and mouse. 1

The perfect gaming setup awaits

To pair your Xbox Wireless Controller using Bluetooth, follow these steps:  

  1. Press Xbox on the controller to turn the controller on.  
  2. Hold Pair for three seconds. The Xbox button on the controller will light up and start flashing.  
  3. Select Start  on your computer.  
  4. With the Start panel open in Windows 11, select Settings > Bluetooth & devices
  5. Toggle the Bluetooth option on.  
  6. Select Add device to find and add your Xbox controller.

Customize your game controller

Access your Xbox Wireless Controller’s settings and customize it to your own preferences. This includes assigning buttons, swapping triggers, and disabling vibration. If you want to customize your game controller for your Windows 11 PC, you can download and launch the Xbox Accessories app. 

  1. Navigate to the Windows Store and search for Xbox Accessories. 
  2. Launch the app with your Xbox Wireless Controller plugged into the PC via USB. 
  3. Create and customize a new profile or select the default. 

Jump back into games quickly

Pressing the Xbox button on your connected controller brings up the new Controller bar, which lets you select some of your recently played games and jump back into them quickly.

Frequently asked questions

    • Make sure your device is fully charged. If the batteries in your controller are low or dead, you’ll need to replace or recharge them.  
    • Ensure your computer’s Bluetooth is turned on. Even if your controller is turned on, it won’t be able to connect to your computer if Bluetooth is turned off.  
    • Make sure your computer software is compatible with your controller. To use Bluetooth to connect your Xbox controller to a PC, your computer must be running the Windows 10 Anniversary Update or later.  
    • Keep your controller close to your computer. Wireless controllers have a connectivity range of about 19-28 ft.  
    • Update your controller. Keep your controller up to date to make sure its compatibility and capabilities are fully optimized. 
  • If your Xbox Game Bar isn’t working on your Windows 11 PC, try the following: 

    • Check your Game Bar settings. Select the start button on your controller, then choose Settings. Navigate to Gaming > Xbox Game Bar, then enable Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using Game Bar
    • During the game, select the keyboard shortcut Windows logo key  + G to open the Game Bar. Select Enable gaming features for this app to record gameplay to use gaming features including broadcasting or capturing.
