London Stock Exchange Group increases productivity with Windows 365

London Stock Exchange Group’s developers had previously navigated between multiple desktops. Using Windows 365 has streamlined this process.

Utilizing Windows 365, developers now have access to GitHub Copilot, enabling them to build code more effectively, securely and efficiently.

LSEG sees increases in developer productivity with Windows 365 and GitHub Copilot.

Windows 365 gives us the ability to provide different types of performance and development environments plus access to GitHub Copilot, where we’ve seen an increase in developer productivity and efficiency.

Sandra Lee, Group Chief Information Security Officer, LSEG

LSEG (London Stock Exchange Group) is a leading global provider of financial markets infrastructure and data. The group has a worldwide presence in data and analytics; indices; capital formation; and trade execution, clearing and risk management. LSEG migrated to Windows 365 to provide its team with a more consistent, secure and operationally resilient platform to build products and services for its customers.

“We’ve seen increases in developer efficiency, customer satisfaction, but most importantly reduced time and effort to maintain and sustain a secure operating platform,” states Sandra Lee, Group Chief Information Security Officer.

She says, “Windows 365 gives us the ability to provide different types of performance and development environments plus access to GitHub Copilotwhere we’ve seen an increase in developer productivity and efficiency.”

According to Mark Lambourne, Head of End User Computing and Digital Operations, “Windows 365 gives us a strong, well-designed foundation to bring new innovation like GitHub Copilot in a seamless way.” Before the transition to Windows 365, developers had multiple desktops and needed to navigate between them. “We are able to run Linux and Windows in a single management system with Windows 365, and leverage our existing engineering investments,” Lambourne states.

Now, resources are in one place—from productivity and developer tools to the container development tools. Lee says: “Windows Subsystem for Linux allows us to operate both the Linux and the Windows operating systems in one environment.” Teams are seeing shorter times to market and can quickly build value with customers.

Building a strong foundation with Windows 365

Utilizing Windows 365 gives LSEG access to GitHub Copilot in a secure manner, enabling developers to build code more effectively and efficiently. Lambourne comments: “After we started using Windows 365, we were able to provide developers and non-developers a secure environment to write code and collaborate together to get results faster.”

They are seeing reductions in development times, finding new ways to troubleshoot code and in certain cases, GitHub Copilot generates code. “You can prompt Copilot, and it autocompletes the code for you. It’s increasing our productivity by helping both generate and review the code we’re creating, reducing the time generating code, reviewing code and reducing the time spent reviewing code. Things that took days now you might take 10 to 20 minutes reviewing,“ says Paul Gravestock, Product Owner for the Bulk Forward Distribution System.

Profound impact on the organization

Across the organization, usersshare how Windows 365, Windows Subsystem for Linux and GitHub Copilot are changing how they build applications trusted by their customers. Windows 365 provides security, access and restriction rights to protect information and systems while helping developers achieve improvements in productivity and friction reduction with the ability to run Windows Subsystem for Linux while consolidating to a single platform. Nitin Mittal, Technical Lead Data Ingestion Squad, says, “Now we can easily switch contexts and have the best of both worlds because your code is already there without having to switch machines.”

Lee concludes: “We’ve seen an increase in developer efficiency and productivity, customer satisfaction, and we’ve also reduced the time and effort to maintain an operating platform which is very important to us.” Moving forward, Lee and the entire team see the potential of the secure, dynamic environment providing engineers with greater efficiency and a platform to meet their customers’ needs.

After we started using Windows 365, we were able to provide developers and non-developers a secure environment to write code and collaborate to get the results faster.
