Protecting livelihoods through technology

What would you do if, tomorrow, your bank account was emptied, your house was burned down and your car was stolen?

For livestock farmers in Senegal, this is essentially what happens each time their cattle are stolen. Around 70% of the population in rural Senegal raise cattle, but livestock theft is rife. It leaves a severe impact on families and communities, who depend on their livestock for income and retirement.

After his neighbour’s cattle were stolen, leaving him too discouraged to breed livestock again, Amadou Sow became determined to solve the problem. He knew he could use technology to track and return stolen animals.

For five years, he tried to get someone to support his idea, but with no luck. That’s when he decided to try Microsoft.
