Following a trade publication’s mixed reviews of the station at the end of his first year at WNYX, Dave presides over a newsroom where Jimmy has announced his candidacy for president of the United States. As the staff threatens to mutiny in protest of budget cuts that have taken away their free snacks and a rival station manager publicly challenges his competence, Dave continues to deal with the problems spawned by his relationship with Lisa. He must also cope with the uproar that follows actor James Caan’s residency to observe Bill as research for an upcoming film role, new workplace sexual harassment guidelines, and performance evaluations that spark petty arguments among the station’s staff. But in a season that finds them going back into the past and far into the future, Dave, Jimmy, Bill, Lisa, Matthew, Beth and Joe continue to hang together as a team.
