Meanwhile, as Julia discovers that family life has moved on during her absence, Claudia learns that she's made the cheerleading squad...as their new mascot. But her humiliation at having to wear a ridiculous costume is soon tempered by an older classmate's attention. Finally, as Griffin tries to ease Julia's obvious discomfort, Charlie takes matters into his own hands with a man to man talk with Owen.

Hoping to make amends with Bailey, Claudia lets him know about an apartment manager's job. And as Bailey gets Sarah to apply so they can live there together, Charlie arrives at Julia and Griffin's apartment to apologize.

Finally, as Julia asks Griffin to join her at the gala after all, Claudia realizes how much Reed cares about her when he recommends she quit as the mascot.

And though Bailey denies it, Annie's kiss causes him to think twice. When accused of not being committed to their marriage, Julia returns to being a docent, a decision that Daniel doesn't hesitate to endorse.

Then, after he and Kirsten agree that everything worked out for the best, Charlie admits he's in love with Nina. Finding that Charlie was totally unaware he was fixing the jukebox causes Griffin to angrily explode at his brother-in-law. As a result of Griffin's harsh words, Charlie makes sure that he knows he approves of him being a member of the family and tries to make amends by offering to have a real wedding for him and Julia.

After Julia finds a note from Rosalie and confronts Griffin about their affair, Bailey balks at Annie's wanting him to be responsible for keeping her sober. Upset to learn that his cancer treatments may not have worked, Charlie takes Bailey and Julia to a mountain cabin where they used to vacation with their parents. And while returning to the scene of some pleasant childhood memories provides momentary relief, Charlie is soon forced to tell his brother and sister about the inconclusive test results. Back at home, Kirsten discovers that Claudia is applying to a Massachusetts prep school. And as Griffin turns to Rosalie after being thrown out of the house, Sarah worries about what Annie's drinking will mean for her daughter. As Bailey admits to running away from Annie in order to protect himself and Julia concedes to having second thoughts about skipping college, Charlie admits he's never felt the same since learning of their parent's tragic deaths. Meanwhile, as Sarah intervenes when Annie is too drunk to take care of Natalie, Rosalie convinces Griffin to spend the night. And when pressed by Kirsten, Claudia admits she's afraid of being abandoned once again should Charlie die. Having ruined their good memories of the cabin with the ill-timed visit, Charlie and his siblings return home. There, Bailey learns that Annie has checked into a rehab program after Sarah agreed to take care of Natalie while she's away. Unaware of what happened while she was gone, Julia arrives at the motorcycle shop unannounced to ask Griffin to come home and work things out. Finally, as Charlie arrives back at the house, he's met with a message from his doctor.

Having forgotten to tell everyone that his party was postponed, Charlie is surprised when a stripper arrives for the event. While helping him out Owen, she makes Charlie see that he's not taking full advantage of his new lease on life. Deciding to do something about it, he then asks Kirsten to join him on a road, only to find that she's not nearly so flexible now that he's well. Meanwhile, as caring for Natalie brings them closer, Sarah wonders about Bailey's intentions with Annie. And after losing his job at the motorcycle shop, Griffin tells Julia that he quit because of Rosalie. Still guilty over having not told Julia the truth, Griffin seeks the advice of a priest before breaking the news about his having slept with Rosalie. And in the wake of learning about the extent of his affair, Julia is no longer sure about their future. Then, after Annie presses Bailey about the future of their relationship, Sarah tries to keep her distance to avoid getting hurt. Only she finds she's drawn in by Natalie's needs. Finally, Charlie is talked into cleansing his life of everything that reminds him of his days as a cancer patient.

Following a Tarot card reading predicting a major decision in Charlie's future, Joe reveals he's been approached about selling the restaurant. And while the money and freedom it would present Charlie with an opportunity for change, his siblings have no hesitation about wanting to keep the restaurant themselves. Meanwhile, Julia and Griffin seek the advice of a therapist to heal their crumbling marriage. And as Bailey gets word that his community service obligation has been fulfilled, Claudia's hard-nosed debate opponent asks her out on a date. While Charlie has second thoughts after agreeing to buy out Joe, Bailey is more convinced than ever that they shouldn't sell. And as the therapy sessions persuade Julia to forgive Griffin's infidelity, Claudia is upset when Jamie fails to show up for their date. Once Charlie changes his mind again, Julia considers using her share of the proceeds to return to school. However, Griffin accuses her of making the decision without him, sending them back to square one in the process of saving their marriage. Convinced that running the restaurant is what he really wants, Bailey approaches Charlie about taking it over. So, as Claudia discovers that Jamie is the son of their father's old rival, Charlie again agrees to keep the business in the family. And as Bailey prepares to take on the responsibility, Charlie turns to refashioning his own life by starting a romance with Daphne. Finally, as and Claudia vow that the family feud ends with them, Sarah is stunned to hear Bailey talk of getting back together with Annie.

And though Griffin wants a few days to visit a friend in New Mexico, word of Justin's return makes him think twice about going away. Meanwhile, when Annie realizes that they are using sex in order to avoid talking, she asks Bailey to leave. After Julia bails him out, Griffin's injuries from the fight make it hard for him to get around. But despite Justin's complaints, she insists on taking care of her husband. In the wake of a bad review, Charlie inspires the cast to continue on with the show. Then, as Claudia tries to anticipate anything that could possibly disrupt her big night at the prom with Jamie, Daphne admits she would be willing to have an abortion. But Charlie suggests she have the baby, even if it means having to raise the child on his own. As Griffin suggests that Julia attend college in the fall without him, Bailey chastises Annie for refusing to give him a chance before deciding to move. And when he turns to Sarah for support, she claims she's still in love with him, leading the two longtime friends into bed -- together! Meanwhile, when Claudia discovers he had the date of the prom all wrong, Jamie asks their limousine driver to negotiate a truce. As Julia prepares to leave Griffin and start her life over at college, Claudia gets word that she's been accepted at a prestigious East coast boarding school. But when she's anxious about what might happen with Jamie, Julia tries to reassure her sister that things don't have to end up like her and Griffin. Finally, after breaking the news to his sisters Charlie joins Daphne at the doctor's office where he gets his first look at their baby.
