Opening up travel for every strata

Despite having the majority share of the Indian online travel market, MakeMyTrip knew there was an entire category of users that had never accessed the platform or transacted on it. The reasons included language barriers, limited digital literacy and proficiency around using app-based interfaces.

The key to making the platform and its offerings truly accessible to this new category of users lay in offering users a method by which they can use the platform in a language of their choice and making the interaction as human-like as possible.

Transact in your preferred language

MakeMyTrip (MMT) created an interface that facilitated natural interaction and allowed users to transact in their preferred language. To do this, they turned towards Azure AI services; specifically the speech, language and Azure OpenAI offerings.

The innovative solution allowed users to interact with MMT’s travel assistant AI bot – named ‘Myra’ – using the power of their voice. The speech input was  ranscribed and transliterated before being processed via Azure OpenAI. With Azure OpenAI, MMT was also able to perform tasks such as intent identification, entity extraction and more.

The new, in-platform tech stack will converse with the user to offer personalized travel recommendations based on their preferences; curate holiday packages based on variable inputs like occasion, budget, activity preferences, time of travel, etc., and even help book these holiday packages. It opens the online travel ecosystem for every strata and demographic across the country. Currently Myra bot is available in English and Hindi for flights and holidays customers.
